I was recently informed by an Allison Automatic Mech. that motor oil is certified for use in Allison transmisions. So, I tried it in an allison that I have in a highway truck and I do believe that the tranny worked better after I switched from ATF. My question is, can I use motor oil in a Mercedes tansmission? Motor oil is a far better lubricant than ATF and many powershift trannys use motor oil. Anyway, just a question for thought.

The marine gears mated to the Detroits I used to work on were filled with motor oil as well, and worked great. I doubt that motor oil would work as a suitable fluid in a MB tranny. Auto trannies for passenger vehicles were designed to use ATF, not a viscous fluid such as motor oil.
