123 Window stuck down, cant remove motor

Hello Everyone,

This is for a 1984 300D turbo. Ok, here is the problem, the drivers side rear window will go down but not up.

The window is all the way down right now, so i cannot remove the window motor without scratching the glass.

Is there anyway to move the glass up so i have more room to work with? Also, from the description of the problem, could it be a motor or regulator? thanks in advance...

I would suggest pulling the door panel and try to push up on the window while holding the button in the window up position.

There are a couple of bolts along the bottom of the window that hold it to the window regulator. Unbolt those and you can pull the window up and wedge it out of the way. Or if you are talking about a sedan (4-door) you can just tape it up to the door frame. ie. a couple of peices of duct tape going up and over the frame of the door.

Doing a regulator replacement in the 240D right now

Actually your half way thru the Service Manuals proceedure for the regulator removal.
Remove the inner panel to the door. job 72-187

You lower the window, which you have done
Then unbolt the 2 bolts to the window slide at the bottom of the glass.
Then push the window up to the closed position by hand.
Then unbolt the regulator/motor nuts/bolts and remove the regulator/ motor assembly in a downward motion thru the door opening.

You can reposition the regulator by applying 12 volts to the motor leads. I use a battery charger and leads to do this. I set my charger on 2 amps only, disconnect the window switch. Look at the wire/connector assembly. The green and black wires that go to the motor are the ones you connect to. Use wires with aligator clips on the 2 wires. Plug in the charger, nnow remember the motor will run as soon as the charger is plugged in. I just touch the plug to the socket contacts, that is your on/off switch. IF the window goes in the open direction, then swap the alligator clips in the connector. This will drive the motor the opposite way.
Your problem is in the center consol switch, OR the window switch, or a broken wire going to the motor from the 2 items above.
If the motor lowered the window than the motor is fine. You switch/wire system is the problem.

Hello,

So far I have taken apart the door panel and try to have someone activate the switch while i push up, no good...

So next is to possibly test the wiring...

Can i test the wiring without pulling the window up and motor out?

try unplugging the window control swicth and plugging it in to one of your other window switchs that works ,sometimes the contacts burn so that a window will only go down but not up...........
