Selling W107 500SL to buy 1956 300 limo....

Hello,
I am on the verge of selling my 500SL to buy a 300 limo.....I think I am finally losing it. Everyone around is buying newer cars, while I seem to be going *backwards*. The 300 is essentially complete, of course the central lubrication system does not work and the suspension links are all dry, but then again the car has not moved for about 25 years. It is a *garage queen* that was cosmetically restored and then parked.
Wish me luck(or otherwise).

Are you aware of the fantastic 300 website and discussion forum?

Well, with only 3 liters instead of 5, perhaps those Malaysian engine taxes will be lower!
Good Luck.

Hello,
I see you are in NC, and I am not aware of a discussion group/website for the W186/187 300 series ,the website I have looked at is 300se.org for the W112 cars.

Hello,
I will be entitled to the *classic road tax*, instead of a US$1000(that's M$3,800)per year for three litres, I will pay about US$100(M$390)per year, a lot less than the 500SLs whopping US$2,700 that I am forking over to the government right now. I cannot wait to see the look on my lawyer's face when I pull up in a *Adenauer* 300 :p (he is a died in the wool Mercedes enthusiast/owner, having owned Ponton, Fintail, 115, 123 taxis from new, and now has a W210)

Two years ago, I went 'backwards', essentially giving up my '72 250 for 'Miss Daisy', my '60 220S Fintail.

If fix-up costs don't eat up all your tax savings, maybe you can afford a chauffeur for special occasions, like that first 'Adenauer' visit to your lawyer. What year is that 300? Perhaps you could even make some money hiring it out for weddings, etc...

Happy Motoring, Mark

Hello,
I am sure it is a 1956, the wedding car idea is a long shot here, the most popular is a W220 S320.
Malaysian do not think much of old cars.
I am doing this because the 300 is just a *bigger* 170, something that I am very familiar with, no shop can give me BS about it.
Thank you for the links to the websites, I will look them up. I am scheduled to *view* the car in the next few days, hopefully it will be in my mitts by end October

Nachi, owning something like the 300c Adenauer will change your driving habbits forever. Suddenly itty-bitty cars on the road will look like mice scattering in all directions.

Hello,
I will just try not to run over too many of the little 1 litre Daihatsu based cars that form 70% of the traffic around here

I dunno how much the American government, much less the Malaysian government enforces these things, but maybe you can eventually "shoehorn" a 5.6 or a 6.3 into it and still pay the low tax?

Hello,
I do not think a V-8 will fit into the 300s' narrow engine bay, plus I would like to keep it original.
If it was a W108 280SE 3.5, I would try to fit a 5.0 or 5.6 to it just for the fun of leaving all the modern traffic wayyyyy back traffic lights.
Have a good week.
