Carburator type on a W114- 1971 250

I have been posting lately about this poor running 130.92 engine. At first I thought I had 2 Timing scales, but I don't, so the timing is not the issue.
So now I suspect the carburators.
They look like 34-4 INAT Zenith Carburetors, but when I removed the float to access the needle (screw in nut), it is stamped 'SOLEX'.

What gives? Do I have Solex carburators?

BTW the Stage 1 and Stage 2 main jets are stamped '90' and '110', which is applicable for the Zenith carbs.

And the symtom is no power. Previously PSFred mentioned a possible vacuum leak, but I have triple checked, and can't find any. I even blocked the vacuum port to the windshield washer pump ( I think it is for the windshield washer pump)

Opening a can of worms?? I'm not the smartest guy in the world but can swap most parts with new on practically any Vintage MB. Yet fine tuning carbs is something I wont touch.

Are you sure that a professional tune-up is not the way to go?

Another symptom

Part #99 is the PreAtomizer for the Zenith carbs. I visually noticed that when I increased the rpm's, the gas coming out of the PreAtomizer was heavy in volume, and kinda spurted out. Should it be 'Atomized' as it leaves the PreAtomizer?

The needle and seat seem good, because when I force air down the gas port, no air escapes when the needle is closed.

Guess I better check the float height next.

Just took off the PreAtomixer...

and I found the center part is mis-shapen, like somebodby pinched the tube with pliers. The top edge is gouged, also.
I noticed the PreAtomixer for the secondary is in pristine condition, so I can swap them.
I wonder what I'll find on the second carburator, tomorrow?

Oh, the last time I had a 'mechanic' work on my car, he forgot to tighten a brake line, and brake fluid was all over the new brake shoes.

I have spare carbs and enjoy giving away parts. Let me know what you need.

MunichTaxi, how far away is Des moines or Federal Way for you? I'm at 272nd and hiway 99 and have a strong running 1971 250C with the 130.923 motor if you want to take a look at it. I also have the factory manuals on CD.

Appreciate the offers

Michael, I've decided to rebuild the carbs, the new spark plugs are extremely blackened after 10 miles. If that isn't successful, I do have a W108 to compare the Preatomizer output.

Chuck, I can let you know in a couple of weeks if I could use some carburators. Thanks for the offer. BTW, are the W8DC Bosch spark plugs hotter than W7DC plugs?

when I got it (in the summer) it had been sitting for 3 years. It seemed to run OK, though 'rich'. I wonder by running it, if the symptom of running rich, as only gotten worse.

The only other thing I did was replace the 0.6 ohm ballast resistor with a 0.4 ohm. (so it has 2@ 0.4 ohm ballast resistors, not the 0.4 and 0.6 as specified)

The 72 Xenith is a 32/ 40 and the 71 is a 35/40. The zenith on the 72 was designed for the lower compression engine to run on regular in 72.
