115 Changeover Switch - Where to find? How to tell if it's bad?

Hello,

My A/C was working fine and then stopped. My heater blower works when the climate control switch is not on "cool". I've bypassed the A/C pressure sensor switch (temporarily). The compressor runs and cools when jumped with 12V to the clutch. I suspect the changeover switch. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or, does anyone know how I might verify that this part is bad before changing it? The reason that i suspect it is that the previous owner removed the compressor relay (i guess to avoid changing it?) and I expect that the changover switch was not designed to handle that kind of current for that long.

Also, I'm new to this forum, so if there's another place where I should post this, please let me know and I will post it there.

Thanks,

Ken (newbie)

Try a search - I am pretty sure I have answered this question at least once.

Changeover Switch

Thanks for the reply. I searched the forum and found plenty of information about narrowing the problem down to the changeover switch. I'd already done that. I'm wondering if anyone knows what kind of resistance I should see across the pins of the switch connector when it is in either position. Also, Fastlane does not currently have this part (for the 1974) in stock. I believe it has 6 pins on the connector. So could anyone recommend another place to look for the part? Maybe a used part?

Thanks,

Ken

I don't think that there is anything less than full voltage transmitted through the switch. It basically turns the compressor on and switches the fan power to the AC blower. Mostly it fails because the diaphragm leaks.

If the online places can't order one for you, you can try a dealer or one of the recyclers. Try Hemmings online to get sources.
