Is this the same as the 123? Should be an easy find, have you tried the parts forum here?

Not a fit (?)

Per my old parts guru, who's usually pretty good but didn't actually check numbers; the 116's and 123's are not the same -
I asked him because I thought I might mail one down under from one of my 123 junkers, in memory of an uncle who lived in W.A.
Plus, of course, they have to be mounted upside-down in Australia

Anyone have conclusive answer, either way?

Yeah I forgot about that..... mirror images are in reverse South of the Equator same as water flows down drains in opposite direction there. So if we send you a mirror from North of the Equator, then everything you see will be upside down.

Mirror images

Naw, you don't need to change out the coriolis valve itself, because you're sending him our driver's side mirror, but he's going to mount it on his passenger side...

You must be thinking of the anticyclonic flow determinator which responds to the coriolis valve; which DOES need to be flipped over. Also, he has to take into consideration reversing the seasonal Spring.

Well, all that is moot if it's mailed from the US and, instead of going across the Pacific, it goes over the Atlantic, across Asia and into Austrailia. Then, with the passing of the Earth's magnetic field in the opposite direction, and combined with the proper travel in the direction of the Earth's rotation, the mirror's silvering will become automatically degaussed for his upside-down orientation.

Okay, guys, we've tortured this poor fella enuf, fer cryin' out loud...
He'll think that all Yanks are just a bunch a wiseacres (you mean, they're not?)
SOMEONE here must have both a 116 and a 123 and be able to measure/compare...
or parts lists...
to see if we can help him out...

Or did it get answered elsewhere?

What prolly won't work from 114/115's, but...

In the later 114/115 280 sedan bodies, when they shifted from the turnable real vent window and fender-mounted mirrors of the earlier 114's to the triangle and integral door-mounted mirror like the 123's, (US Serial 068051 on)
the sedan parts are:
Inside Cover Plate (no mirror adj hole, just blank-out filler) L 115 325 05 11
R 115 325 04 11
Seal L 115 725 09 66, R 115 325 04 11
Mounting Brackets 115 725 01 41
The US 280Coupe book shows even a different rig for the later versions - a fixed glass triangle for the pax side, and a strange small triangular adjuster-type mount for the driver's side PLUS a filler panel to make up the rest of the larger triangle, total about the size of the old-style vent window...Truly strange-looking.

So it indeed looks as though only the 116's will do...pity...

well as far as i can tell a late model 115 euro benz mirror will fit. a friend in Austria has given me the exact measurements as my 116 and i also draw your attention to the following site:

Sorry fellas............

Hello,
ONLY a W116 assembly will fit a W116. The other stuff like the chrome shell and rubber surround MAY be identical but due to the different *rake* angle at the A-pillar, all the triangular mounting bits and the triangular rubber *seal* are chassis specific.
AFAIK,the only part identical for all those chrome door mirrors is the MIRROR itself. I bought W107,116 and 123 units from the junkyard for my W115, none would fit without some ugly gap.
Have a good week.
