W114 horn question

Hi all,
might be a stupid q, but what the hey...
on my car i have the old type steering wheel with chrome horn ring.
i was wondering if the horn is only actuated by pressing the lower
half of the ring, or should it work no matter where you press?
i only noticed this when i went to toot at a friend, pressed the top half,
and got no sound. i thought it might be a dodgy contact or something,
but it works fine when i press the lower half of the ring.

cheers, and Happy St Patricks day, in advance

tony

My '73 220D was the same way. The center cap was simply a cap. I'm pretty sure there was a top or upper ring but it was solid and didn't activate the horn.

Only pressing on the bottom half works on my 108. I think nearly all of these have the same design, so I think this applies across the board.
