Spring Projects

Now that spring is here what do you plan on doing to (or with) your Vintage Mercedes over the next few months?

Good grief,

After spending almost every weekend over the last three months working on my 3 classics, would like to drive them!

Last weekend, I replaced the window regulator on the W108.
Next on the agenda are:
4.5
Electrics
Lighting
Heater leavers
Carpet
Wood
A/C
6.9 - Silver
Rear Axle
A/C
Muffler Wrap
6.9 - Black
Full muffler system
Floor Pans
Rockers
Wheel arch
Replace doors
Replace Fenders
Replace Trunk and Hood with Alu equivalent from a 300SD
Paint
Lots of other little things.

I think im booked for the rest of the year.

My spring project is getting my 108 to look decent again. Hell, I'm hoping in a way to have the motivation to make it look BETTER than it did with some better paint, now that I have a spray gun + compressor...

I'm currently living 1500 miles away from my garaged 108, but still plan do get some projects done on occasional visits. The annual Spring stuff, like plugs, oil, valve adjust. Might have the tranny adjusted as kickdown's not engaging properly. Oooh and maybe r & r the rubber buffers for the lateral motion of the rear end. It's that threaded piece on the passenger's side, I think...

I still would like to obtain a set of 'progressive' springs and get rid of the nosedive under heavy braking. A new set is like $1k so it's not going to happen anytime soon. Even slimmer possibility is my desire to swap the clock in the gauge pod for a 6.3's tach.

If I am keeping the car I need to:

Replace the fuel injection lines
Put in the spring kit
Get new tires
Replace the fuel tank sender

buying a garage in Reading next week. Have to move four cars into it so I can clean up my driveway. Right now, I own 21 mercedes spread across 7 states (NY, ME, CT, PA, WV, CA, IL).

I need to sell off the 450sl and the 190e 2.6 and shred the 300e parts car. In my spare time, I've been waking up a 6.3 that I'll sell off too once it runs well.

Powerwash all the salt out and do some surface rust cleaning on the under carrage. Then get the rear main to stop gushing and just leak. :(

I plan on driving it a bit before I sell it :(

Car needs a timing chain or possible engine swap with lesser mileage, better running engine from the parts car.

Also plan on converting electric driver's window to mechanical, just the driver's window not the rest. Its enjoyable playing with electric windows and experimenting with air flow throughout the car.

Another item is pealing varnish on wood trim that I will strip and refinish to some kinda light color, possibly using maple or yellow pine stain.... should look great to accent black on black vehicle.

And the fenders on one side have checked from massive sunlight exposure. Can this be compounded down and cleaned up? I will be rubbing down the fenders to find out.
