What kind of shoes are on your 6.9?

In my persisting search for appropriate 16" wheels and tires what type of 14" tires are you W116'ers using on your cars? There aren't a whole lot of 215/70-14 tires left on the market. Any reccomendations or warnings?

I used to have Fulda Carat Attiro in a 205/70 VR14 size. They seemed to grip well and ride quietly in the time that I had them.

I have tried different brands over the 10 years I have had my 6.9, but I come back to Michelin in 14s. I have X-ones on my bundts. I don't think they make that particular tire anymore. Long-wearing and straight-tracking they are. I had some uni-directional tires once and they seemed to pull to the right. Why that is I don't know, but it happened. A change back to omnidirectional solved it. It doesn't make sense. But that's how it was for me.

I bought a set of bundts with some cheapie tires that had a proper fit, but not a proper weight rating and they all failed with belt separations. Two tires failed in Wyoming while I was returning to Houston.

this was a bad thing. the belts separate and the insides try to come out forming a bulge. They make the car ride like you have a brick glued to the sidewall, the balance is so far off.

That's scary. Belt separation is not what anyone wants especially on a 4500lb car.

So you're running the Michelin X tires now?

I have the bundts with the Michelins in the garage.
The car has 16" Ronal r-9s on it right now. I bought some Kumho Ecsta Supra Verzetta Rambino Jr's awhile back. May have that name wrong.
I can't remember the sizes, but they're staggered.
They weren't on the car long enough for me to get a good feel for if they were good or not. Cheap enough to toss if they were crap, but they had big number on the weight rating, like 95 or so.
The car is at the shop.

I'll look at the invoice for the 16's if you are interested in the spec.

Were the Kumho Ecsta Supra Verzetta Rambino Jr's Pilates Zuffenhausen Bratwurst Fasterrosa 14" or 16" variety?

Sure I would be interested in the 16" tire type, spec, and width information in your staggered configuration.

Bundts and Continentals

I have the 14inch Bundts and a brand new set of Continental 215/70's on they. They are RUBBISH!. There has been a number of times that I have gone sideways in this car when overtaking. Not good when you don't have ABS.

The 16inch Pentas will go on shortly.

Are the tires not gripping or is the LSD not doing it's job? What kind if tires are on those pentas?

Rubbish

No the tires are Rubbish, I never had that problem with the old Uniroyals and the belts were broken on them. They just have no grip... this is especially the case in the wet.

I have some BF Goodrich Advantages on my 108. The weight is probably similar to a 6.9's. Traction is great - even wet and snow. I can't complain at all. The fronts are wearing fast but I need a serious alignment, which can wait until many front bushings are replaced. For $50 a tire, I can buy 2 new fronts if need be before I align it.

The Kumhos are 225-55 16 and 245 50 16 for the rears. Wider than 225 on the front contacts the fender at full steering lock when the suspension compresses.

They've got a really open-looking tread, but they don't seem to be too noisy. They looked like they would cut through puddles pretty well.

I don't have the car nearby, but I went to a tire site and I believe I got the 712s. I got mine at discount tire for under $80 American.

There's a crappy cell phone photo of them in my Gallery. You can't tell much about them by that picture.

Oh, yeah. You may have seen the auction that ended recently for a 6.9 engine in Houston. I have always wondered what a 6.9 engine weighs and the guy in the auction says 1400 pounds.

I believe that. I have an 6.9 engine and transmission on a dolly in my garage and it takes 2 people to get it moving.

BTW pictures of it are on Mr. Alabassi's fine 108 site.

Thats a good price

Thats an awesome price, but if you live in an area where theres so, those slick looking bi directional tires are pretty lame in that weather condition.

In wet or dry conditions however they are awesome.

If the Kumho's work in that staggered setup that would be just fine. I may just have to break down a buy a set of 8 hole rims from Tire Rack but I heard that a set of the 15's from another poster bent on him and assuming the car wasn't doing stadium halftime show jumps then I am worried. Any of you guys heard good or bad things about the ASA 8 hole 16" wheels?
