When your number is up it's up!

Hey guys,
Looking for a decipher of my transmission ID code.

1973 280 automatic.

Numbers on the side of the trans are

114 270 2501008480

There are "NO" and I repeat "NO" 722.*** numbers stamped on the housing. I've cleaned every surface visible and they aren't there.

Just trying to correct the infamous 3-4 flare.

Yeah, yeah, modulator has been changed, linkage has been adjusted to "exact fit" at idle stop position. Filter and fluid has been changed. Tranny was power flushed, it has 30 p.s.i., vacuum line is fine and draws full manifold vacuum, kick-down solenoid has no effect either connected or not.

Transmission works fine but it's just an annoyance to "feather-shift" using the acc. pedal.

722.202

Thank you!!

Just curious, how did you manage to cross the number over? I couldn't find any correlation on any site. Magic 8-ball, tarot cards or what?

The 'legal' epc (see the sticky in the forum index) allows you to search by part number. I took the first section, 114 270 25 01, which is the proper length/format for a MB part number and plugged it in. Haha, no real magic...

Same tranny as is on my car, btw. I believe mine has ~170k miles on it and, so far, shifting ok...

:)

Today is brought to you by the letter, duhhhh!

Errr, let's make that the infamous "2-3" slip. The 3-4 shift is fine albeit a tad early (modulator adjustment will cure it).

You may find the flare problem improves with proper modulator adjustment. I had flare problem with my w123 and adjusting the modulator cured it.
