getting a rusted 79 mercedes car soon, rear axle? other parts?

hi there i am getting a rusted out 1975(edit) mercedes car unknown model yet

it is probably the most common model sold in 75 im sure

what about any parts to save from a 75 ? ones that may be hard to find or not reproduced or etc.?

i know nothing about these cars at all and have never had one,
let alone touched one,

i see one around now and then though- even out here in no where small farming town IL.

i "grew" up on old american cars and trucks, so im pretty far out of my element/profession here for lack of better wording haha

any interior or glass or clean metal ?

power steering or power door stuff?

dash related ?

lights ?
switches ?

engine ?

anything specific?

or is there nothing worth saving from such cars as these really

i need a quick crash course on these cars

i know nothing about mercedes cars, not the first thing even, these numbers and model codes are beyond me

i hate to waste anything good,

no matter what it is

so i want to save anything good that someone may have a use for

thanks for anything !

hi there i have no idea but im sure its the most common of the year ?

i dont know what models there were in these years, or what each different one is, or anything ,.

being that i live out here in cornfield, snow, rust land, farm land central IL -where anything older than 95 is rare- i'd have to say its gonna be whatever was the most common model produced/sold in the USA within this time period.

thanks!

the rear end is fully independent on all mercedes cars since the thirites at least.

All other parts have the potential of somebody needing them if they are any good.

Check out this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz

Near the bottom is a timeline with links to specific models. You should be able to get a quite a bit of general info from that site.

if the engine is still good as well as the trans you can get a good 500$-800$ depending on how well it is

you can run the vin through a vin decoding site once you get it..post the vin and someone will run it for you to list the options and etc.

if its 4 door sedan with black carpets I'm calling dibs

update its a 1975 and still unknown model because it is in a friend of mine's dad's garage where it has been stored for many years,

i am getting it saturday according to my friend,
her dad said i can come get it and he wants it gone and she will call me saturday and im taking the trailer over to get it then

monday it will go to the shredder but i will try putting it out front by the road for 350 bucks and see if anyone possibly buys it maybe,
but i doubt it

all i know is that its a car and its probably the most common/most sold model in 1975,
whatever that may be
i have a digicam and can take any requested pics, make offers on any parts mailed from 62656,

i cannot mail oversize or overweight parts that require freight shipping because we only have one freight terminal here; it is a fed ex truck terminal; and they are high dollar to freight items.

for example a headliner costs 250 bucks to mail, as does a transmission..
its bad..
so you would have to arrange pick up or some kind of shipping from where you are

any questions or anything then just let me know

also i am signed into yahoo messenger at all times
and i am on evenings and nights

fastr68 user ID
or email me direct same ID @yahoo.com i check this email many times a day normally

if i can help anyone out on parts they may need for their ride or project then great i hate to waste good things, i have been doing this for years and have parted probably closer to 200 different vehicles that i have come across since 1994 and have mailed lots and lots of parts, hundreds, but not so much in the last coupe of years since scrap prices have skyrocketed and ppl have had less projects and need for used parts except for later model vehicles, etc.

Thorsen if this turns out to be a V-8 model then are you still interested ? would have a way to come here in Lincoln or at least within an hour of here to get it if i were to pull the engine ? I am willing to pull it if it is a v-8 and you are interested in one. Or the whole car since the price would be about the same anyways.

any certain VIN or body tag code to look for ? where would the body tag be located ? would there be anything glued inside the glovebox or trunk deck or somewhere else?

regards,
Randy

look on the front radiator support there should be a plate with specific info. Also the common door tag. If the car is a euro model that will be important to some people. The power window regulators are worth $50-$100 depending on condition and model of course.

a simple vin will give us much more info.

oh ok i can connect a good battery and test those easily enough

ill take pics inside and out, under the hood, get tag numbers and the vin code as soon as i get back here with it

what would be the first dead giveaway of it being a euro model ?

how common was this back then ?

if it were one then that means it was a european built/sold one and would have to have somehow found its way to over here in the states after it was sold brand new in europe ?

right?

or ?

interesting...

thanks
