				1975 240d heat and air

I have a very nice 240d,the heater fan has never worked, but the air conditioner worked very well. The air cond. fan suddenly quit when the colder switch was turned, you can hear a "clunk "when the switch is turned but the fan won't run now....ant ideas?thanks......the air fan runs fine when I stick power to it,the fuse is good, but thers no power to it from the switch

The switchover (green arrow on black knob) performs two functions: One, which you heard, is to operate a vacuum pot that redistributes airflow. Second, it also switches current from the heat/defrost fan to the A/C fan. If your fan works when you apply 12V to it, I'd suspect the switchover or the blower regulator, with more emphasis on the former. Jim

| Heater blower is back agains the firewall, A/C blower is at bottom of console. Switch is on console, it's fairly easy to remove the console and see what's in back. Vacuum element is on driver's side of HVAC box, if I recall correctly. Jim

On the W114 which may or may not be the same as your 240d, the air flap just above the throttle pedal has a switch on it to redirect the current to the AC fan or heater fan. The clunk may be the flap moving but not making the switch. Michael

I had a small split in the vaccum pod above the go get'um peddle,I put a few thin layers of black silicon on the split, letting them dry between layers and it works well...don't know for how long though,lol.....air works fine now that the switch is tripped...now for the heater fan....yikes
