Check out these bolts from the flex disc

Check out these bolts after getting rear ended in my 1976 240D stick shift.
The bolts are from the flex disc closest to the trans.
I had to grind down the head of 1 of them to get it out, the threads were striped.
Now that I have all the bolts out the flex disc is loose but I can not get the drive shaft back far enough to remove the flex disc.
Do I need to remove the E-brake assembly so everything drops down?
Kevin

Loosen the large slip joint nut. I believe it is a 46 mm or if you're lucky, a large pair of channel locks will do. It is a clinch style retainer so if it is tight, it won't move.

..and after you have it all together , do not tighten the slip joint nut or the bearing mounting bolts until you have rolled the chassis back/forth a few times to set the loaded shaft length and bearing mount loaded suspension position. They will settle into posistion by themselves and then you secure the nut and mount. Failure to do this will result in premature disc failure and driveshaft knocking.

Thanks for the info

Thanks guys for the info
I still can not believe the threads missing on the 1 bolt.
Do yall think this is a result of me being rear ended?
I only started checking things out because of a slight vibration after the crash, she was doing about 40 and never slowed down when she hit me.

Its possible but I doubt it cause it would have had to push the diff forward alot and doubt it could do that without alot of other things bending in the process.

Wow, does that sound worse than it was? Seems like it would have been a pretty good hit.

Are the 2 bolts next to it wearing smooth as well?

Yes, and the bolt with the nut still on it turns freeley with your fingers this is how I found the problem.

Seems like you'd have transmission damage if it jammed the driveshaft into the flex disc that hard.

What was the damage to her car?

It was a Saturn, the hole front was smashed she barley drove it home.
My neck hurt just a tad after the crash, now after working on my car my neck is killing me.
I just called the Insurance co I hope I am not wearing a neck brace during the GTG.
I stopped working on the car in till my neck is better.
