1, 2...3 pulls on handle (external) to open door?

When opening the door of my 116, what used to take a gentle pull on the external door handle now takes a couple heavy tugs, sometimes in quick succession.

Do you think this is just a lubrication problem (or lack thereof) for the handle or the latch? I don't mind spending a few hours taking the door apart and cleaning/lubing but was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same problem and had any feedback?

Thanks.

I have the same problem on my '77. I don't know the solution (hasn't bothered me enough to seriously investigate yet), but I will be watching this thread.

External handle only or both internal and external? My experience with a sticking door was the rubber lined socket on the strike being just sticky enough to make it a real challenge to get the door open.

On a W114, there is an adjustment on the back of the push button that controls how hard it pushes on the latch release. I know the W116 doesn't have a button (I can see my 450SEL from here) but it might have a link that's either adjustable or have worn bushings.
