Anybody happen to know what that device is in the last picture of my previous post? My guess is cruise control, but can anyone confirm? Thank you.

That's the actuator for the cruise control--the cable should run to the throttle assembly on the original Solex carburetor.

Alrighty, tomorrow I am replacing the rubber fuel hoses in the engine bay and will install the weber carb.

Does anyone happen to have any pictures of an installed Weber carb on an M110? That way I could just copy the setup and connections of the picture.

To connect the Weber I need to do the following:
1. Connect fuel hose from fuel pump
2. Connect electric choke wire
3. Connect charcoal canister
4. Connect vacuum retard line
5. Connect vacuum advance line
6. Plug remaining vacuum lines....

Sorry to bug you guys, but for some reason I cannot seem to figure out where all the connections go. Just need a bit of assistance, really do not want to screw this up.

In this picture, Where is the vacuum retard line? Which charcoal canister line should be attached to the carb?

Got the Weber mounted,

Quick question: on the M110 mechanical fuel pump, there are two connections. One near the top of the part (furthest away from the engine that connects to a metal pipe. The other connection on the fuel pump is closer to the engine and comes straight up.

I assume the one that comes straight up is the one I need to connect to the carb. Where is the other one going? The reason I ask is that I suspect that the Solex had two fuel connections... wondering what to do with the other one.

American market cars have so much crap on them !.

Those aren't exhaust gas breathing hoses, they are gasoline fume hoses from the charcoal canister. The idea being that the fumes from the tank and carb are burned rather than let loose on the atmosphere where they cause global warming and kill baby polar bears.
The fat hose is connected to the air cleaner on your weber.
The black plastic hose is normally a manifold vacuum line to the charcoal canister and the middle line is connected to the gas tank .

The vacuum cansiter is a idle switch. When the engine is idling the gas fumes are directed to the canister as the vacuum opens that valve. When acelerating the valve closes and the canisiter is isolated.

True true, I have been searching for pictures of M110 engine bays and the difference between the USA and Euro market cars is sometimes a bit loony! You guys get to have all the nice cat free exhaust systems and such.

The reason I am so confused on how to connect the Weber is that the supplied instructions are next to worthless and the Solex has two fuel vapor hoses and seemingly two fuel inlets where as the Weber only has one of each. So I am trying to figure out how to safely connect all of this without killing myself and/or setting the neighborhood on fire. Another PITA is the shear amount of leftover vacuum hoses I have. The Solex has nearly 8 vacuum connections, and the Weber only has 2. I have no idea what to do with the leftover 6 or so.

I capped the EGR vacuum hose with a supplied vacuum cap so that takes one down. Tempted to just yank all of those little electro-vac switches next to the charcoal canister as I doubt they work anymore or are not going to be useful for the Weber to operate with.

Confusion confusion...

4 vacuum hoses from the charcoal canister area that I am thinking about bypassing and removing.

The hose in my hand is the one that needs to be connected to the Weber.

If I do the action in the above photo, then this vacuum hose is eliminated.

Mounted Weber

What is this dangling device?

Crap! I stripped the bolt head from one of the five water pump bolts... I may need a new water pump housing and housing to block gasket. I have no idea how to remove the broken stud, it is a really small diameter bolt thread.

The Weber kit I have uses the factory air cleaner. With that said. There are only 4 connections besides the electric choke for the Weber.

One is obviously fuel which is the brass fitting at the rear of the unit.

So from what I understand after reading your post over and over. (Sorry, I am a bit slow when it comes to these things.) I need to have the left most hose of the charcoal canister connected to the 2nd brass fitting on the Weber to act as a fuel vapor transport. The middle hose on the charcoal canister needs to somehow connect to the gas tank. I believe there is a hard metal line that comes from the gas tank to the engine bay. Do I need to connect it to that? The right most charcoal canister connection is already done and from what you have said is a manifold vacuum connection.

If the above is correct, then all I would need to figure out after this are the two vacuum connections that need to be established for the Weber.

Yikes! Break it down a bit guy. Too many pictures and questions in one post.

Last picture - water pump bolt. Remove radiator and water pump. More than likely you can grip the stub of the bolt with needle nosed pliers or small vise grips and spin it out. If not, use a small center punch in the center and drill a small hole using a left handed drill bit (and no, that is not in the same category as teflon welding rod or a sky-hook). 99% of the time the bolt will spin out using pliers. If you have to drill it, then use an easy-out to remove the bolt. I find the square, tapered ones work better for me than the spirals.

Hey Mike,

I bought a square tipped bolt remover kit from Home Depot this evening. I went ahead and removed the 4 good bolts beforehand and took them with me to get 5 new replacements. I sprayed the broken bolt with penetrating oil and will give the kit a go in the morning.

Thank You!

Success!

Success! Man did I think this whole bolt removal thing was going to be hard, but it took literally 30 seconds to remove the stud. I tried needle nose pliers at first, but there just was not enough of the thread left to grab on to.

New pump installed with new grade 8 bolts!

Update

Repainted heater pipes installed, alternator cleaned, regulator checked for condition and reinstalled

Fuel filter fitted with a bit of fuel hose

Ran the left most charcoal canister line directly to the fuel evaporation line on the Weber

Pulled the cover for the wiper motor to check it out, looks great and wipers run fine

I have no idea what the device is to the right of the distributor with two vacuum lines connected

Drain plug is in fine shape, but I think I need to get a new copper washer

I think the metal line right above the fuel filter in the picture is some sort of fuel tank vapor hard line. I think I am going to run this directly to the last port open on the charcoal canister.
