Thanks guys. I'm still doing the basic things right now. I have some front shocks coming, and I'm going to do the front subframe mounts and trans mount within the next few days. I'm going to make sure the chassis is good before removing the lead from merts ass.

I like the idea of two OEM mufflers but space might be tight on a 114. I wonder how restrictive the stock silencers are? Anyone ever cut one open?

Right now I'm just enjoying the car as is. When I have the funds together Ill start out on my quest for speed.

Panda, definately count me in for a Kentucky get together. Keep me posted.

I am a fan of the M110 engine. The Solex 4A1 Carb does not deserve the bad reputation. All carburetors that are fed sludge instead of pure filtered gasoline are going to have problems. They are easily cleaned and rebuilt. Kits are available for parts that wear out or break. The major failing of the Solex 4A1 Carburetor is a warped condition that is caused by over tightening. This is a human error to over-tighten, not a design flaw.

Welcome home Mert! You will be well cared for by Jive Turkey!!

It looks like a euro car, the radio antenna comes from the center of the roof in the back though? I'll stop by and take some photos for you next time I drive past the old thing.

Thanks mate! Either leaded gas or lead substitute added to mid grade seems to keep my solex happy, Wolf Walker did a hell of a good job putting one together that starts, idles and runs. He also added more filtration for the furl in the form of a fram filter in the bay before the carb. I think that definitely helps.

Todayni installed new shocks up front, a new trans mount, and took a closer look at the subframe mounts up front. Those are on the ASAP list!!

I stopped and took a closer look at that w116. It's behind a chain link fence so it's a little hard to see. Here's what I could find.
-Small bumpers
-automatic
- manual climate control!
-Silver over blue velour
-non glaringly obvious rust, but again I can't get close to it.

Looks like a really nice car.

So glad to see the ole car getting some attention finally. I couldn't have asked to find a better new owner.

And all I have to say now about the Solex, is illustrated by the fact that Mercedes did not use it any more, or longer, than they absolutely had to. A quadrajet is a decent carb, a carter AFB/AVS is a decent carb, an autolite 4100 is a good carb. The 4A1, not so much.
And I sincerely hope to never speak, hear or touch one ever again.

FYI I *think* there is a complete-ish euro k-jet M110 in a W123 at a yard here. The car has one euro bumper and manual climate control, don't recall the W123 280's having that in the US. Probably be less work to MS or TBI it. I did a lot of reading about swapping in GM TBI awhile back.

Mert threw me a clot the other day. I was putting in the front subframe mounts and the sway bar kit and everything went brilliantly on the drivers side. Not so the passenger mounts Despite applications of PB blaster, liquid wrench, and propane heat I broke BOTH bolts... and a socket extension. The bolts sheared right where the threads started. I'm planning to cut the area where the flat tab and spring go in verticaly and peel the metal up so I can extract the broken bits. Ill then fold the metal back down and weld it into its original shape. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

In other "Mert" news his set of wide whitewalls came in from Coker tire!! There will be pics when I've finished the subframe mount repair.

If it's correctly badged as a 350 it's a Euro.

Says 350SE on the drivers side of the trunk. It sure is a pretty car. If I didn't have a *****in' diesel 126 I'd be considering it.

Subframe repair worked marvelously! Here's a pic of Mert with his White Walls. I'm chuffed to bits with them. Tomorrow rear shocks go on, maybe rear subframe mounts, and i'm gonna bleed the brakes.
