This is beginning to sound like an episode of Southpark

How about this?

Al, you may be on to something there, sticking a 108 front on a 116... Now do that to a w126 (for real)! You have enough of those!

Likin' it

I like the way you looked after the details-like the fogs and Euro headlights. Very cool. Nice paint, too
Like an ass everyone also has an opinion. Haters. Scroom.

The topic was supposed to be about bagged 108s...I really dig this though.

I have a 108 and I've been looking to do something like what you've done but a bit more conservative... Mine is completely stock and a bit of a bore. (I'm 'stealing ' your blacked out grill-great idea.)

Any chance you could post or PM me a set of digitals of the air suspension?

In Jersey too, BTW.

I've been thinking about maybe bagging my w115 after finishing up some of my other projects, because I personally think anything w123 or earlier on bags looks pretty sweet. Yes I know it won't be original to the car and blah blah, except its my car and I'll do as I d*mn well please. As for saying the car was designed to be driven and handled a certain way, back when they designed it in the 60's, well that's cool, except that it takes me a half mile to get up to 60, and since I don't drive the car much over 55 anyway and don't race it ever (since its the mint sunday driver) I'm more concerned about the amount of character the car has, opposed to being 100% original. If I want to go fast I'll drive my w123, with the turned up boost and alcohol injection, which I'm sure I'm going to hell for

OP if you want to bag your car do it, don't let any of the naysayers put you down, since its your car and you get to drive it and not them

Has the knowledge base improved to the point that people are getting good results with airbag suspension? What I'm really getting at: Did it improve lap times?
It's not a race car, i will say that i would feel confident taking it on a race track but the m110 even without the solex is not a track day car. It does rides better then stock and also rides excellent at very low ride heights. Due to the modifications it no longer has a front sway bar. There have been major improvements to the air ride management systems, but i would agree that race cars should have coil springs.

but since Mercedes history isn't your forte...
I guess that doesn't matter...
and since history doesn't matter.. and esthetics are all that matters why not just Graft a Mercedes front end onto a beetle... then you've got the best of both worlds.. cheap readily available parts, RWD, and.... and.... an egg crate/honeycomb grille. then you can stance it on top of that.... whoahhhhhh what a spectacular thing it would be..
i don't understand why your such a dick, nothing you write will "compute" to me because i'm out building old mercedes the way i want to and your out trying to rain on the parade.
it's not about esthetics, the car functions better then when it rolled out of the factory. it's a shame that you can't see past how low it is to appreciate it.
and yes it is cool, everyone but you can look at it and enjoy it, i'm sure if your saw me driving along at a somewhat normally lowered height you would be very impressed too.

I spent the last two year fabricating the complete suspension, reworking the control arms and subframe, making subframe mounts and motor mounts. sourcing epslion wheels (google it mister car historian, because bbs wheels are to common). pulling the rear fenders to get a +24 offset to fit inside there. it might not be your cup of tea, but it is mine.
to sum it up your a dick.

Obviously, riding on the sidewall like that, or with the sidewall at the opposite angle to how the tire is design and intended for safe proper use, is pretty foolish. I'd love to hear if I'm mistaken, but from that pic I see, the tires on that 114 are way too narrow for that rim and look like crap.

I've never been a fan of "Stanced" vehicles. I'd rather put my money into go-fast, not ride-low (or park-low as it may be). That camber just ruins the whole look IMO. If you're going to lower the ride, that's one thing, but when the camber makes the wheel look cock-eyed, that just looks hideous to me.

That having been said, "It's your car, do with it as you wish" - People would probably crucify me for saying this over on Allpar or some other vintage Mopar forums but if I won the lottery I'd love to get a 70 or 71 Cuda, pull the original engine, and put in a modern crate Hemi from the Mopar catalog.
the tires are 195/50 on 9" wide wheels. yes the tires are stretched, i wouldn't call it unsafe.

You don't have to take a "with us or against us" attitude.

You could just post up pictures of the modifications and let everyone make up their own minds. Some opinions might not be to your liking...

...but...

I'd like to see the technical stuff under the body work.

I'm guessing that at lowrider get-togethers there's a special area reserved for testifying about the persecution that these enthusiasts somehow endure from the cruel car world around them. A lot of tears and bad grammar in this thread but zero 'build' details.

Nah, this is a good thread to follow. A refreshing change from the "Open Discussion" threads' dramas. Oh wait...

Just went to work on my latest sandwich build. I'd post the results but you guys probably wouldn't appreciate the stance and overall flavor.

I used some Muenster cheese that might make you old guys locked into your 'classic' sandwich mode uncomfortable - see if I care mmmmmph mmmmmmmmph!

Muenster cheese is perfectly acceptable for a Benz forum. Now had you used "cheez-wiz"...

I'd love to convert my SDL to air suspension, it solves so many problems at once!

ummm how do you take a corner? with no sway bar? in fact lets talk about Bump steer as well. I've seen stanced mercedes before. ****s not impressive. doesn't take a genuis to lower a car.and as far as esthetics.. well.. if it wasn't about esthetics why would anyone without any performance oriented thoughts in there brain, lower their car.

the euro M110 makes 185hp supposedly, but you could also just bump the American market up to 10:1 thing would be a rocket in a W114 if tuned properly. but nope, lets just buy a bunch of bull**** to raise and lower the car.... and never see a return on the money invested when the car sells.

I'm sure you dont actually know anything about the M110 or how strange of a design it is, or how to lash valves or change a timing chain... so really in my opinion what your saying doesn't even matter, b/c you don't even have the basic knowledge to maintain your car, but your gunna lower it? seems ass backwards to me.

The proof is in the pudding (where are the before and after pics); is this one of those mods which make the car bounch up and down (gansta style); post those...er wait...you may give someone a heart attack or cause projectile vomiting (LOL).

I am not of fan of too much modification to the original design (the technical aspects), but I can find some stuff in that one picture (Stance Mercedes) that looks pretty nice: blackening the grill really makes the chrome kind of pop. From what I hear, if you use black "plastic dip" paint (home depot has some)...if it turns out bad you can just peel if right off.
