220D electrical issues.

It was running with no electrical problems. Blew up the motor. Acquired junkyard motor as my crank/rod was beyond repair, plus some other stuff.

Went through motor, put it in car. Used donors glow plugs. Shorted. Melted circuit 30 at headlight switch which had previously been repaired. Fixed. Swapped glow plugs Still has a short somewhere.

I went from glow plugs to firewall. No problems.

I'm think I should start at the gorilla switch/salt shaker now. The salt shaker used to work and now isn't after incident. But is there a ground wire in there.

With fuses 2-5 showing 15 ohms to ground, and 6-12 showing 7 ohms to ground, I'm looking for where they are all together. I think.

Just found some medical scissors. Stoked.

Lucas,

Could the linkage from the valve cover to the IP be touching your resistor wires and causing the short?

Lucas 11-15-2014 01:45 PM

No it was good. I had junkyard plugs in and they were shorting out. Thank you though.

Do you have another glow plug relay that you can try?

Is/was there any non factory options on the car (stereo, amp, fog lights)

220D electrical issues.

It's actually working now. No relay in a 115 220D. Circuit 30 runs to headlight switch, to ignition, to gorilla switch, to salt shaker, to plugs.

Presumably the headlight switch is the goto spot to melt in a glow plug short. It had been repaired (badly) before, which probably helped me out as it what melted this time. I'm eventually going to do something to glow plug control. Maybe a relay, or a 100 amp circuit breaker just before they attach. However, this opens the door for more potential problem spots.
