Thanks for the info Baxterdown. please share the part numbers with me. and as for the coupling, its $40 for MTC. i want OEM. i found the coupling bushings for pretty cheap tho. I'm just going to replace those.

btw, What the heck is a Volculan ring? sounds like something from star trek.

Steering Coupling Bushings- part #1114620165

I know what you're talking about with the horn. when you hit bumps, the metal horn mechanism rattles. it's quite annoying. i was thinking of just putting some flexible foam or silicon back there to keep it taut.

Let me know if you need part numbers.

Jose

Tony, nicknack,

Here's a link to the M-100 forum with a detailed explanation and pictures. They are actually called Volkollan (or Volkullan, I'm not sure) rings and they are used to address and issue where the horn goes off every time you turn the steering wheel. I suggested you change them since you're doing the coupling job.

The part for the horn "clank" is 115 464 0024. It's also a tiny little plastic ring. You need three (or four, I can't remember) and you can get them from the MBCC for about $1.50 each.

I used an aftermarket coupling and haven't had any issues with it so far. Have you heard differently?

Jose

P.S. Nicknack, your car is BEAUTIFUL man!!!!!!!

Thanks so much, Baxterdown!

Ya, that clank is annoying. and hopefully the coupling isn't a pain in the butt to reach. i remember on my 450SL that coupling was so hard to get to, that i didn't even want to bother touching it. i just lived with the steering wheel play.

but I really need to get that steering play out of the 280se since it doesnt handle like the SL. It's like i'm driving a boat right now. such delayed reactions.
