The most likely axle ratios are 3.27, 3.46, 3.92, and 4.08. A 3.27 would be out of a 4.5 V8 car usually. Those are considered the most desirable. 4.08 is considered least desirable. It will be stamped on the left front of the differential housing "3,27" or something like that.

The 3.27 that Scooter mentions should be stronger since it was made for the 4.5 V8. It is easy to imagine your car snapping the old differentials like match sticks.

You'll find people wanting crazy money for a 3.27 rear end. But they cost the same at the junkyard as any other rear end and the labor is exactly the same. I could have picked one up last weekend but I'm sure it is gone by now. Wouldn't mind having one on my parts shelf....
I got a W109 300SEL 4.5 rear end several months ago -- including all the brakes and calipers and stuff I think it was under $200. It was a lot of labor to get it out, but less than a W108 since it had airbags and no big springs to mess with. I'm saving that one for my 65 300 SE W112.... |
