71 220 Engine Mounts and Related Wrench

71 220 gas.

Need to replace my engine mounts and it looks like our host only carries the right side. Or are they interchangeable? Do I need or would the job be much easier with the suggested motor mount wrench? Link below.

I have changed many and never used a special wrench , the job is pretty easy by lifting the engine off the mounts from below, there is not a right or left if I recall, but do make sure you get OEM or equivalent , there is a lot of crap out there. Oh , and only raise the engine the needed amount to get them out and in , too high and when you come back down alignment issues can result

As MP says, reasonable job changing them out
Might want to have a pry bar available for aligning the holes for bolt insertion.

I've read about the mounts being specific to engine/side, but for all the W114/W115 cars I've had, I never noticed any difference when swapping out L/R.

In theory, one one side will tend to compression, the other to tension, maybe that is the nuance between l and r.

I recall just undoing one side, changing out, then do other side. Tends to keep everything in better alignment for reassembly.
I'd raise the car (ramps/jackstands), the place a trolley jack with a block of wood under the oil pan for leverage.

The job will be easier with a bunch of extensions on a half inch ratchet or breaker bar for undoing the bolts.

I would recommend having an associate around to help shove the engine back into proper alignment when replacing the mounts.

Some, not all, of the M115's have an engine shock absorber which you need to undo to get the height required to change the LH mount.

The different RH mount may have to do with a specific A/C mounting arrangement. Odds are you won't need a different one.

Change the transmission mount while you are at it but don't have all the mounts loose at the same time. I do the transmission mount last.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've changed many mounts but when I saw the special wrench Pelican offers to replace motor mounts I though I would ask. I've owned a few cars where specialty tools were a must.
