111 coupe - help identify this part...

Hi, I have a part that I'm not sure what is. The part number says it is A111 690 80 49 which EPC says is the hat shelf in a 111 / 112 Coupe. Item 10 in the EPC image. I think it's too thin to be the hat shelf. Can someone with a coupe tell me what this part is? See pics

Maybe? Probably? I don't have a coupe to look at so I don't know. Hoping a W111/W112 coupe owner can check and see...

Looks to me like item #10. Does it have a vinyl surround on it? It would go between the hat shelf and the rear window, if that is the part I am thinking it is.

It's upholstered in Cognac. I think you are right about what the part is, but where in the image is the actual hat shelf? #10 looks like a hat shelf to me. FWIW it's new and hasn't been unwrapped and has a date stamped on it for 15 Okt. 1981. I suspect it has been sitting on a shelf since then.

#10 is the hat shelf. #11 is the part between the hat shelf and the rear window. Having the sun beat on that part, makes the vinyl separate from the metal, and even shrivel. If you want to use it, I would treat it with some good vinyl conditioner on both sides first.

Naaa, I got it wrong. It's for a Cabriolet. There is no hat shelf. It goes at the back where a hat shelf would be. The part has never seen the sun, the vinyl is falling off because of age.

Can you re-glue the vinyl?

I was just watching the video in the hydropneumatic post, and happen to see one of those parts. It helped guide air out of the back of the car (airflow was to go across the rear window, keeping it from fogging up, and exit behind that metal/vinyl covered bow.).

Sure, the vinyl can be re-glued.
