In the US, model years up to 75 were D-Jet, 76 and after K-Jet.

The reason I ask is:I am looking at a 73 450sel and a 79 euro 280se.i am assuming the 450sel fuel injection will be more problematic with hard to get expensive parts compared to the 280se.Both are nice cars

I think it's the other way around actually. Other than the cost of the electronic injectors - but those can be sent out to be rebuilt and matched for about $40-50 per injector, which is still not too bad. I would suggest that you drive both and purchase the nicer car that runs better in current condition. The key for me would be rust - whichever one has less would be the winner.

Check out the part prices. I think you will find both have their good and bad points.

A lot of the D-Jet stuff has been subjected to work arounds for parts NLA. The big deal to look at would be the distributor and the trigger points.

But check out the price of a 280 warm up regulator. And if those valves were not adjusted on a regular basis it will eat up those cams.

It comes down to a case of there are a lot of 4.5 engines out there and not a lot of 2.8's.

But the rust thing.... That would be the deciding factor for me if either car would suit my needs.
