General W108 information

I have a 1972 W108 280S Sedan. I need some miscellaneous parts and would like to know in general what models and year cars have interchangeable parts with this car? It is my understanding that some parts from post 74 cars may work. How about W115, W123?

It Depends on what part you are talking about.

I think you should assume that no interior or exterior parts interchange, except maybe knobs, seat belt latches, etc.

A 280s sounds like an m130 dual zenith carb version of the w108. I parted one out, and the motor was similar to the three w114 cars I owned, also with m130 and dual zeniths. However, the 280s had ports for air pump injection, hike nine of my w114 did. The transmission was the same as a pagoda w113.

There is an online resource called the Mercedes EPC (electronic parts catalog) that can be used to get the correct part number for your model. Then you can search to see what model Mercedes used the same part number. This is very handy, but it is no longer free, and requires a PC (not Mac) with Java installed.

More parts would interchange with a 111 and 109 (or another 108) from the 60s and early 70s than would interchange with later cars. For example, the 111 front kingpin suspension is largely identical to the 108's. The interiors have a lot in common as well. The engine in the 280S 116 was the M110, which isn't the same as the M130 in the 108s.
