diagnosing a vibration 280SEL 4.5
At highway speed when I begin a slight turn a vibration begins which goes away when the car straightens out. This happens often but not always. And I think that there is a little vibration which occurs constantly. I was thinking that the front wheel bearing(s) might be loose but they're not. Is this typical of an unbalanced drive shaft? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like wheel bearings to me. If they aren't slightly loose, they might be worn to the point the need replacement. If you replace the bearings don't forget to replace the races too.
My 4.5 had the same wheel shimmy under certain conditions, to include the one you listed. I repacked and tightened the bearings, shimmy went away, at least for now. In the next few months I will probably replace the bearings, just because.

Thanks Mike. Having read your post it occurs to me that the bearing may have flattened cause the car was parked for a couple of years. In any case I'll have them replaced.
