Help identify this headlight/foglight lens...
I have no idea where I got this. Perhaps a Ponton. Diameter is 5 7/8". Any ideas?

Well, you do have it turned the right way. Oben is german for 'top' or 'up'.
So we know it is german made. It's odd there are no DOT marking on it. Of course if it came from a german delivery car then why would there be DOT marking on it? |

This appears to be a lens from a BMW. ZKW is a lighting company in Germany that makes fog lights for BMW that are this 150mm size.
I did find it on a german web site for 15 Euros. But toss in about $25 Euros shipping if you buy it from them. This appears to be from the late 70's, at least according to the information I could find. I have to admit I have never seen a BMW with one of these lights. Perhaps because BMW uses Bosch fog lights that have been DOT approved in the US? |

I just said late 70's because some of the ads I found for new ones made a reference to that time. All the references were vague.
I do have to say this sort of fog light went out of favor during the late 60's. Mercedes stayed with their Bosch fogs that look sort of like this until 1976 and then that was the end of them. But they were a feature since 1967, so it kept the styling it started with. This looks like something that would be more at home on a larger car, but I can easily imagine a BMW 2002 with them. They would look more at home on a Jaguar Sedan from the 50's or 60's. |

They could be aftermarket.
