Vintage M180 Engines: Who Wants Them?

Hey All,

My father was a Mercedes mechanic for many years. I've been cleaning out his barn and have 3 M180 engines. I believe they are a 220, a 250, and a 280. Condition is largely unknown but my dad was a bit of a parts hoarder at one time.

The 280 is block & head, no spark plugs in it. The 250 is block & head with spark plugs (sticker on it says it was injected). The 3rd engine is believed to be an early 220. Feel free to tell me what it actually is! It is largely complete with carbs/intake/fan/alternator/power steering/etc etc still on it.

The garage needs to be cleaned out and I'd hate to see them end up in the scrap yard. I'd love to turn them over to someone who might use them. I'd like to get scrap value for them (mostly just to make sure they don't get picked up by a scrapper).

Anyone know of anyone that might be interested? Or another forum I should post on?

They are located in Fredonia NY.

First number is the 280, second is the 250, last 2 are the mostly complete (possible) 220.

There is always a big scramble for a head when somebody wants to fix their motor and nothing's handy. Cams and cranks are also going scarce.

I conjured up an M180 head for a young lad in Ky a few months back after he got stuck. But that's because I am a hoarder like your dad was and he got lucky. I even have a spare for your SL, but it's in pieces with a bad cylinder.

Id LOVE to take all three aha but im in a bit of a pickle, like always with cash haha. Im mainly semi interested in the 220 vers thats m180.940-02-000163. What i dont understand is why is this a later vers of mine m180.940-10-001089 that has a generator and yours has alternator.. anyway i said semi interested because its like the same as mine minus the generator alternator difference and im looking for a parts donor for my car in case anything goes bad, but its complete and it runs now but it has a bad coolant leak from the water pump housing behind it and thats like even rarer when i had to find a head for this engine. CTH350 was the one who helped me out n made my day. Plus itd be nice to have spare parts almost at the ready, albeit not new but at least SOMETHING and not look all over the internet. Are you giving these away or are you selling them? Will you ship? Id love to see more pics of these engine too btw

Definitely not shipping whole engines. I was trying to save them from the scrap yard. I'm definitely not trying to drag them out & pallet them for free.

I might have some more free time in the near future to drag them out & start tearing them down. If I do the parts will start to appear in the For Sale section on here.
