A bench seat in front would be a heck of a good reason.

My relatively heavy '72 220, equipped with AC, automatic, and fatter radials was drudgery parking in a tight space.
My '60 Fintail 220S wasn't so burdened, and with its' skinnier tires, parking was much mote tolerable.

Our forum's TylerH860, Tyler Hoover of Hoovie's Garage, is doing this conversion on his old Mustang without power steering. All jokes aside, if you drive a car and want to enjoy it, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make it better to drive.

My father had an '85 Subaru, manual (gearbox and steering). It was a bear, you couldn't turn the wheel until you got the car moving.

Tire choice has quite a bit to do with how easy/hard manual steering is. That said, '60s Mercedes power steering is very nice. I have a manual steering finback and it seem fine. Good luck on the project.

There are probably an abundance of parts available for converting a Mustang to power, but likely none for a Mercedes. The typical manual steer us car of that vintage had a load of turns lock to lock and a lot less with power steering so yeah, that is a good reason to make the conversion.

Tom, it's all modified Prius parts. I figure if you can modify them for a Mustang and get it to work, you can modify it for an MB too. It was a thought/suggestion, because the electric systems do not require modifying for a PS pump, hydraulic lines, etc. Nevermind replacing the rack. You can replace the rack for fewer turns if you want, and Hoovie's issue might be that someone did replace his rack with a tighter one, making it harder to turn without assist. Or he just doesn't like the manual steering in it.
