3.5 Man Trans on Ebay
Spotted this on Ebay. Pretty pricy but might be a find for someone.

That would be a fun conversion, but then you'd have to find the presumably equally rare shift linkage...

If one were going to convert to man trans it would make sense to use a modern 5 speed not a 4 speed with a granny first gear. They are valuable and rare though. Someone might want to replace a trashed original 4 speed.

I wonder if a Getrag 6-speed (Mustang) or Tremec 6-speed (Challenger) would fit, with the appropriate bellhousing adapter. There are companies that will custom CNC cut a bellhousing for anything, for fairly cheap (especially compared to, say, what you'd pay for a 4 speed factory manual for a 3.5, for a Tremec plus a CNC bellhousing you'd be less than a third of the cost I bet)

Not sure if you have seen this thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-performance-paddock/271090-non-mb-trans-mb-engines.html
It concerns several different man trans conversions. I think the limiting factor is the cost of 1 off conversions. I saw a 111 with a 6 spd conversion on BAT a while back. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-mercedes-benz-280se-3-5-coupe-14/ No details on the conversion though.
