W115 floor pan replacement... Main support under rear seat?
 

Hey guys...


So my 240's pans are GONE. It sat for a few years which they weren't in the best of shape to begin with. Apparently water was getting in and the whole rear driver's side floor is completely gone.


Planning on saving it and putting pans in it. I like the car too much to scrap it.


So.. the problem is the rust goes beyond the pan and has gotten up into the main cross support at the front of where the rear seat base goes. The tie in point where the driver's side rear control arm brace bolts to is gone. Behind all of that, the car gets pretty solid. I guess water was trapped in the pocket created by that main cross brace and the floor pan that comes up under the back seat.


I haven't been able to find anyone that makes this panel. Is this going to be something I have to fabricate from scratch?


The tunnel seems to be solid as does the pinch weld area where the pans tie in.


Thoughts?

you will need a donor car or someone good at welding. it can be done by fabrication, I do not know of after market options

Yes

Shouldn't be too hard unless you are wanting it to look like factory. Making patterns of cardboard and putting them in place. You can secure with pop rivits, sheet metal screws or get someone to weld it.

I can weld it up no problem... just didn't know if anyone made these parts prefab or if I'd have to make my own.


Looks like I've got some work to do in the next few months.

I had something like this on a 115 years ago. I could still find cars in wrecking yards then so I just cut out a large section and placed it over the old and rusted out one. I cut out most of the rust and treated the edges with Navel Jelly to stop the rust.

Then I sealed the edges with some sort of 3 M product that was like a putty. After that I just drilled a lot of holes and stitched the new part into place with a lot of stainless bolts.

It looked terrible from the bottom but it worked. And the inside was covered up by the seat and carpet. When it was all finished the car drove just fine.

Finding a rust free section will be the tough part, but if you do you can make it work.

And.....

This is a long shot, but a 108 pan might work. I know you can cram a 108 back seat into a 115. It's tight, but it will fit and look good.

The 108 might take a bit of modifying, but if it would work this opens your project up to more donor cars.
