Part identification help

Hi
I’m in the process of getting my sons 1977 w123, 280e air conditioning back up and running. Could someone please help identify what is missing in the photo. I’m pointing at what I’m assuming is the remains of an idler of sorts. A part number or drawing would be great Many thanks in advance |
I can't tell what that thing is, but it is apparently mounted on the AC idler pulley mount, which seems to be intact. If you look carefully, you can see the 10mm adjusting bolt for belt tension as well. The pulley is almost 4" diameter part no. 116-130-04-60.

excellent, many thanks.
It looks to me like the inner race of a bearing (where a pulley would be mounted) Does anyone have a drawing of the pulley and belts arrangement? |
You could check with a dealer on this. As I recall the pulley wheel is bolted to the idler arm with a tapered bolt. This should have an allen head.
The tapered bolt should be just fine. These pulleys freeze up, like they all do, and they will eventually just fall off the inner race. Or they are pried off by someone who can't figure out how to remove the bolt. The Allen heads get filled in with dirt and are sometimes hard to figure out. I have also seen these bolted in with a regular headed bolt, but I do think they are all tapered and you will need to get the correct bearing, which is also the pulley wheel, from a dealer or an aftermarket. Check the Pelican website. This is a very common replacement item. |

It should look like this. I just happen to have a very dead motor in the driveway, don't ask.
Drop me an email with your address. -CTH |
