I'd be all over that if it weren't so far.

Wow thats rough. I see a lot of stuff I could use though. Like the radiator cap, those heater boxes. Wonder if he has any trim, or those side panels. As for the whole car, might have to pass.

I would've hit the roof seeing the rear end missing. At best...

Years ago I bought a E30 of Ebay(around 100 miles away). Gave the guy a deposit. Went to go pick it up. Realized something was different....., he yanked the radio out. Even the oil filler cap too.

It looked like someone just ripped it straight out of the dash. When asked about it, he said" I didn't get enough for it, so you don't get that stuff".

I'm used this this kinda thing. Really wonder if this happened with my car...

Might have to look into that. I do have some other expenses from the recent snow storm that we're still recovering from, so funds are a little tied up at the moment.

Though it runs, you can tell it has a amazing amount of blow by. So as fate would have it, I asked a guy on Ebay if he had any other om636 stuff. He sent back some pictures of what looked like a field of 50+ pontons, and older stuff.

We got to talking about my 170. Next thing you know I'm driving 200 miles away...

Wound up getting a complete 636 engine that was from a running ponton that got wrecked. Guy walked away from it!.
Was claimed to have been rebuilt fairly recently. Picked up the trans, and starter to it as well.

Even better I got a front windshield( though bubbled, will work) the rare curved rear window. A inside door handle. Those missing under hood side panels. A wiper motor with linkage. Trunk support levers. Even the hood hinge.

I couldn't afford any of the trim. Would have costed more than the whole drive train combined. Might have some Peugeot stainless laying around, it could work..

Now I'm torn about the color.... Is it white with black stripes, or black with white stripes?

Got that 180d engine ready to put in. This requires changing the oil pans, and removing all of the normal 180 mounting stuff. Somehow using a tractor & engine lift. I got it shoe horned in the car.

For future reference the 170 has a single grove crank pulley. The 180d engine has a double groove. There is not enough space for the extra belt groove...... There is also no way I'm going through that again.

So I'll saw off the front spare pulley groove...... Not proud of it, but thats how it goes sometimes...

The stock generator will be put on a shelf, in favor of a alternator I found on Amazon(from some sort of isuzu diesel truck $25.00 ). Its internally regulated, with a combination of washers, and my metal lathe- it'll work fine.

Also the 180d trans does not use the same rear mounts, really no way( short of a custom bracket) to get that mount to work. Also it uses a different clutch rod setup.

The 170 clutch pivots in the bellhousing. The 180s has a fork, and a spot for a hydraulic clutch.

Maybe you could swap bell housings, still would have the rear mount issue.

Instead of the 6.40-15 tires. I'll be running 165/80/15-tubed. At less than 1/3 of the price, I can put the savings fixing something else on it.

Lastly the fuel tank had a factory internal coating. Haven't found anything that will take it out- other than bolts!. Acetone, and MEK doesn't touch it. Getting tempted to fill it with bolts, and soapy water. Then strapping it to the tractor wheel.... Hmm, wonder if whole kernel feed corn would work?

When its all clean, and prepped- RED KOTE will be going it in.

Isn't that a part that one wants well balanced?

Removing the radiator doesn't give you room to pull/press the pulley?

Indeed it is. With that double pulley, it was too close to clear the front top spring pack. The engine goes in at a crazy angle, so thats why.

Which reminds me, I sawed about halfway through it. Then i realized all it was acomplishing was cutting off the rear pulley(thats the one I need!). So it had to be lifted back out, and then I swap the old one on.

Just tried to get it going, a plugged fuel filter has stopped me for right now. Not to mention a huge thunderstorm just hit.

Yep I have a bottle. This engine has sat for many years, the fuel went gummy.
