1967 250SE injection pump timing

Hi there,

I just bought a new injection pump for my car and I wanted to make sure about the installation timing.

I was told to place the engine @ 20 degrees after TDC on cylinder number one and adjust the marks on the injection pump and install. Is that correct?

Thanks very much in advance.

I just did this. And yes, if you remove the female-female coupling from the injection pump, you can see the mark on the male gear that you line up with the mark that’s at something like 10:30 on the injection pump housing.

Then I struggled a bit with the harmonic balancer marks because on my 280se there are two sets of marks, 40 degrees off. I used a plastic straw to find the true cyl 1 TDC and then later learned why there are two sets of marks. Let me see if I’ve still got the pic in my phone...

I think I have the later style shown in the pic with the triangle.

Ironically, I’ve got a 1967 250se (4-speed) in the garage I need to do this on next. The 280se is my “learner” parts car that’s all rotted with no title.
