W114 Engine/Tranny Availability

Was the W114 coupe ever sold in the USA with the M110 engine and a manual transmission?

Hypothetically, yes. As a practical matter, the wait might extend into the next model year.

This might help or be total nonsense. Hopefully someone will add some information to this posting......

Mercedes engines are the engines. Then Mercedes has a choice of transmissions. What makes one bolt up to the other is a plate installed on the back of the engine which I have heard called 'the intermediate plate'. This has the correct bolt pattern for the engine/transmission combination you are looking for.

So you could buy an engine, a transmission and an intermediate plate, put them all together, and Presto! You will have what you are looking for.

The tough part for me would be finding the correct flywheel the correct length driveshaft and moving the transmission mounts to the correct place. Actually moving the mounting points is rather easy if you know which one you should use. You would have to look at the frame of your car to see what I am taking about.

There would also be the correct motor mount arms to consider.

Not a small project, but it would be nice when it was finished.
