w108 engine into a w115 swap. Easy?

I have a 70' w115 2.2 with a manual transmission. Would a 1967 250s engine (automatic trans) swap into the w115?

The 67' is rebuilt and I'd like to use it if possible. It looks like the bolt pattern to the transmission from the 67' 250 is a little different on the left side from the 70' 220. I know I would also need a flywheel. But has anyone tried this? I read somewhere that the engine's from the automatics won't work with a manual trans because the pilot bearing hole won't be on the end of the crank for an engine with an auto transmission, making this idea moot anyway. Does anyone know if that's true? Thanks.

I don't know. My guess is it would be an easy swap. Don't know about the pilot bearing either. Someone here probably knows all the ins and outs.....Mark Desilvo? Not sure of the spelling of his name.

The engine in the 250S, a version of the M180, is also known as a M108 or M129. In 1968 it was re-labeled the M114 and used in the /8 chassis. It is the engine of the W114, hence it is a "bolt-in" in the W115. It is a bolt-in if you find the correct engine mount arms. The crank will accept a pilot bearing, and if your flywheel has the same crankshaft bolt pattern, it can be used. Because the engine is longer, the drive line will be shorter, as will the shift rods.

Awesome! Thanks Frank! My shift rods seem pretty adjustable. Transmission mount also looks very adjustable. Should be able to use the mount arms off the 2.2, I think? Flywheel is not the same bolt pattern. Also, might be too light? 30lbs. Read somewhere the 2.5 needed a 40lbs flywheel? That's alright, they're on eBay. Motivation to pull the 250 is increasing.

fly wheel and pilot bearing will be obstacles. 250s fly wheel has 6 bolts and a pin and was balanced with the crank, so that may be an issue??

Flywheel is not a big issue since the engine is not a diesel and since it is an inline six which is inherently "balanced". A light flywheel should work fine. I'd think around 20# would be about right.
