Trying to find part for W115 carb.
I'm trying to get a friend's '72 W115 220 going and looking for a carburetor part, or maybe a used carburetor that has this part.
It's the little threaded rod with the plastic ball-sockets that links the throttle-shaft to the fast-idle cam of the automatic 'enrichment-valve' on a side-draft Stromberg. Rod with sockets is approx 2 3/4 inches long. Thanks. Mark D.

I think your best bet is to look for one of those side drafts on Evil Bay. They are there now and then and really cheap as there are so few cars that use them there is not much of a market.
On a personal note: I owned a 230 years ago. This carb took a bit of figuring out but once I did I could not understand why they were all not like this. Different for sure, but sooooooooo easy to work on and adjust. |

If that part is the one I am thinking about then you should be able to find or make one from a used one off of any Mercedes from that period. The plastic ends are what wears out. The rod, unless it is rusted, should be reusable. You can also but the threaded rods at most larger hardware stores and cut it to length. Make sure it is threaded in metric. A good tip for cutting one of these threaded rods is to put a nut on it past the point you wish to cut. Two would be better. Then, after you cut, removing the nuts will clean up the threads where the cut was made. Can you post a photo of the parts? There is a chance they can be purchased new. |

They got pricey!!!
Those carbs were used on Triumph, MG, Morgan and others, might be worth a look to see if the part you need is common to other makes to widen the search. Try Moss Motors and Morgan-spares. Good luck!!!

Otherwise, my friend rarely drives the car, and can still start and warm it up holding his foot on the pedal. Meanwhile, the carb has developed a fuel leak from a tiny vacuum hose, which won't stay connected. Thanks, Mark D. Picture drawn from memory.

Yes, many British cars used Stromberg carbs, including my '67 Sunbeam Alpine. But most used manually-operated chokes or enrichment-valves, and there are substantial detail differences between British Strombergs and the German one on a 220. But I'll check online for photos to see if anything on a '70s MG or Triumph Stromberg looks like it could make one a parts donor. Mark D.

they are in Canada and yes you do have to call them. Very nice people. I have bought many nice parts from them They are one of the few very reasonable priced parts companies out there. |

This part appears to be one of those things to look for after finding an old Mercedes in a wrecking yard.

Because of the plastic on this part, it might be difficult to find a good one in a wrecking yard after so many years of temperature extremes, fumes and weather.
