'75 W115 240D Hazzards work but turn signal doesn't

Manufacture year '75, model year '76 W115 240D. The turn signal has stopped working but hazzards didn't. Figured it was the relay but problem persisted with new relay. The strange thing is that the hazzards hlash front and rear lights but side lights dont flash. Hazzards are the square button style. Fuses all fine. Any ideas where to look next?

Testing with a wiring diagram and a multimeter would be best...my guess would be a bad turn signal stalk. Did you test the fuse connections with a test light or multimeter?

Had a '76 240D, manual transmission with AC. It was a really nice car.

Thanks! I ruled out the fuse simply because other components on the same fuse were functioning. Why would the front side lights not flash in hazzard mode if it were the stalk? Same car, btw! Manual with AC 76 240d

I don't remember if the side lights did flash with the hazards...I can't say.

That AC setup was cold but the York compressor made changing the water pump fun. Had one fail 1,300 miles from home and changed it in the pouring rain. Some things 'ya kinda remember.

Ouch. This baby's in incredible shape but I wouldn't venture more than 50 miles from home in it.

they are on different circuits, check to see if you are getting 12 v on each side of turn signal and hazard fuse circuits. Looking at fuses can be deceiving If you have power there then check also check to make sure you are getting 12 v to hazard switch

was this a sudden occurrence? Were you working on something and then the problem?

You were right. Visually the fuse was intact but signals came back online when the fuse was replaced.

Additional info on this topic.....

These types of fuses tend to build up resistance where they are connected to the electrical leads in the fuse block. So it is best to now and then just to rotate the fuses a bit in order to knock off the resistance that has built up.

For example.... I once had a Porsche 914 that just died. It didn't take long to figure out it was a fuel problem and that led to a bit of fuel pump testing. I tracked the electrical problem to the fuse which was in perfect shape. The problem was solved with a bit of sandpaper knocking off the resistance layer that had built up on the end of the fuse.

Since then I always start with cleaning the fuses on any new project. It will always save me time later when something, as it alway does, quits working.
