Correct ATF for '66 230 w/ AUTO (W110)?

Owner's manual lists dozens of ATF makes that no longer exist.
Closest sounding to modern is Mobil 200 or Shell Donax...
Possible modern equivalent? Perhaps Dexron II....?

Does the owners manual specify a type of ATF e.g., Type A? Chalet Type A is still available.

A few web searches state Dex III and earlier are ok but IDK for sure. If Dex III is ok i would use Valvoline MaxLife.

Send an email asking Sun Valley Mercedes Transmission Rebuilders in CA, they are VERY good. If you do, please post their response.

Dexron III should do it or any Hi End Fluid

Most important Issue is changing the fluid most early MB's have a Converter drain > You can unhook the Lines and blow out the fluid (use low pressure 15 Lbs or so ) and blow out all the fluid in the lines and Oil cooler if your so inclined holds more then you would think.

The Transmission get more wear then most all of the Mechanical parts of the Car and Clean fluid & Cool Fluid will keep it Running Smooth

As A Test I changed a 95 Ford 5 Speed Fluid about 4 times in
( Stick shift They use a M5OD Mazda)

One and a Half Yrs and it was always Black as Coal except right after Changing it My Guess for 2 or 3 Months > I do a Lot of towing But with all Cars and Trucks the Transmission gets the most workout

Tranny Fluid is Cheap > In a PU Truck Or SUV to add a Fluid Cooler is a great Idea to prolong Tranny Life
