W114 side vent removal?

Hi all,

One of my winter projects, is to refinish my dashboard veneer.

For the life of me, I can’t remove the side vent, in order to remove the right most piece of the dashboard. I have great access from the glove box (removed the box itself).

It looks like there are four - for lack of a better term - 1 way clips I need to push in, which would release the vent on the inside (behind the dashboard).

This is proving rather cumbersome, and I always get very nervous around old plastic parts.

Am I overlooking something? If anybody has any suggestions, I’m all ears! (I couldn’t find anything in the technical documentation on vent removal… But I may not be looking in the right places.)

Thanks!

The best way I have found is to turn the inner half of the vent. The clips usually slip in and then you can pull the inner part away. Warning: when removing the front it will often pull up on the veneer. Good luck, it's actually a very rewarding job.

That did the trick! Make sure to catch the springs and bits, and it all comes out nicely.

Thank you!
