Timing chain replacement!
Doing some work on my engine (om617.951) on my 81 300 sd. Discovered that I have about 5degrees timing chain stretch and it’s time to replace it. I’m gearing up for the job and balking at spending the $$$ on a crimping tool that I may only ever use once. Does anyone on here have a line on how to rent one online?? Or know someone in the Pacific Northwest who might lend one? I’d much prefer a real tool to hand riveting, i feel nervous about grenading my engine.

hopefully someone else will get in here that has a tool you can buy/rent.
I peened one with a punch and hammer on an anvil before I installed it but I was rebuilding a motor and was able to lift the crank and install before bolting the crank down. its lasted 14k so far. I realize that this is not really an option for you though.

I've never had an issue peening them.
