Hi all, I’m in Custer, WA, restoring a 1973 Mercedes 450 SLC (W107, VIN 10702412003734). It’s not running, has a fuel tank connector leak, and I’m working on a Bonded Title since it can’t be driven to the State Patrol yet. I have some mechanical skills and a workspace for a multi-year project. Looking for advice on fixing the fuel system and getting it running. Thanks!

Welcome!

Be careful how much time and money you choose to invest until the paperwork is in order. Is there any chance the State Patrol could review what you have now and tell you some things to check or better yet inspect it at your place? Some will.

The car looks nice and I am NOT belittling your car but want you to be aware that SLC's don't have the value nor demand of SL's. IMO SLC's look great.

Start with a compression test, replace the plugs with standard Bosch plugs.

Can you post a pic of the broken fuel connector?

When the key is in the run position do the fuel pumps run? The pumps often seize from sitting. If they are seized replace them both, the fuel filter and clean the tank.

Where the fuel line goes into the fuel distributor IIRC there is a screen filter, check it,

Has it been sitting? You will need to go through the entire fuel system from the tank to the intake manifold.

Then, if you get it running you will need to go through the brake system.
