Parting out 280C
Dear Community:
I have a '74 280C (manual, M110) that I am salvaging for parts. The body/trim is completely ruined and thoroughly rusted. The interior is pretty much ruined as well. This coming from a guy who hates to waste anything. Anyway, when I ran it to my folks' farm last fall, the engine actually ran surprisingly well. With your collective experience, what would be of value? I can promise it has an unwarped Solex, for example. Does anyone have any interest in a specific part? Will |

A good, unwarped Solex 4A1 would always be of value (to me, for instance). How about door windows/window motors? Anything there? Also front brake calipers if they're in good shape (but given what I know about corrosion in Minn, probably ANTHING exposed to the elements should be suspect!). A manual transmission will always be of interest to someone -- they're pretty hard to find. It's a popular engine so I'm sure someone would be interested (but the trick is to find a local buyer since you don't want to ship something that heavy across the country).
Also, if you have the original Becker radio people seem to really pay a lot for them (considering that they sound like crap). Instrument clusters seem to be popular. Suggestion: go to eBay, search for "Mercedes 114" and you'll see what parts people are offering and buying for this car. Why don't you give me a price (offline to catrinus1@netscape.net if you prefer) for the following: Carb Door window glass window motors Steering wheel if in good shape Catrinus 73 280C |

This weekend, I'll take your "wish list" in hand, check to see the health of these items, and get back to you. Thanks for your advice/input... Will |
