Rebuildig a wrecked 91 500sl?

There are LOTS of used parts available very reasonably (even cheap) for this car, Figure on 20-25% of new prices for great used parts. The body shop labor for rear quarter panel may not be too much--if its just top sheet metal and not crumple zone. If crumple zones are damaged--figure $1000 on a frame machine just to pull it straight--then gotta replace the damaged stuff. A good sand, prep, complete repaint will not be less than $2000. Parts for the soft top electrics, electronics, and hydraulics are VERY dear if it does not work properly. Replacement soft tops are +/- $500, +20 hrs for installation. I see hard tops for +/- $500 often (probly not a matching color-need repaint). Later model headlight assemblies are very costly--over $1000 each for the HID ones--used!.

Now--airbags--if activated, gotta replace seat belt assembly, airbag, and airbag control unit. If available used --good. Mega $$ dealer supply==figure $2500+ in parts.

Its 'the little stuff' like nuts, bolts, clips, shields, etc that can really eat up money and time. Its just amazing how many $5 parts there are.
