You may want to check out the Escort/Passport 8500 as well. Some have that detector rated higher than the V1 (although I don't want to get into a religious war here). See

I just bought one (over the V1). It fit nicely right above the left side of the rear view mirror. The V1 was to big for where I wanted to mount it. I direct wired it to the overhead light console.
It's an awesome unit!
