I used either a 17mm or a 19 mm OE wrench to remove the strainer. One of these 2 is the size of the fitting on the fuel hose. If the hose is screwed into the strainer tight and the strainer is not too tight in the tank, turning the fuel hose fitting will remove the strainer.

Worked for me, might work for you.
