i asked this question early in my 240d owning career and received the same answer then as i am imparting on you now...

you do not need a tachometer, the fuel supply is governed(?by the ip?) and this regulates the engine speed, the engine should never redline because of this.

the clock is a charming piece of automotive history, enjoy it!

in a year, youll wonder why you ever needed a tachometer!! in some cases, you might even try, in vain, to tell the time by your tachometer. ive found this to be true in my neon, and it is a manual transmission.

i thought manual transmission cars *had* to have tachometers when i was 16. how things change in 7 years, huh?
