My IR remote key door lock/unlock works on the doors, but not the trunk.

The tech spent an hour, with the (logical) conclusion that it is a bad IR sensor in the trunk mechanism. The trunk unlocks using the door sensors, another indication it is the trunk sensor not the mechanism.

The trunk remote sensor is $200. Are there any alternative sources? Can they be rebuilt or repaired?
