Bah it still has the same API ratings. Seems like pretty much the same stuff. I have zero reservations about switching any engine regardless of age over to synthetic. If its in good shape you won't have an issue. If its full of sludge from 50k oil changes then you may have problems, but heck you already do in that case.

Considering that I can run 15w-50 in my old diesel for 7k-8k miles according to the lab a new gasser should be good for over 10k, or once a year.
