The move to the five speed autobox in 1997 resulted in lower engine speeds, and the final drive ratios were also dropped.
Don't worry about revving the M104 inline six. That puppy will cruise all day and night at 100+mph.
Get some V-Rated tires, and find some deserted road prior to running her at top speed.
