I don't think that there are euro and US intake manifolds. There are new and old styles, and they were both used in the 280SL.

From my experience it is difficult to deal with the oil filter housing, but it is also a huge pain to pull the intake. I am not sure why you want to do this - the coolers are expensive and prone to leak and make oil changes are real pain.
